The Songwriter
Music genres are almost countless, especially in these days of hybrid sounds fuelled by technology able to morph sound at the flick of a switch. The one constant is melody, and the mantra "Melody Is King" guides MatteoM’s songwriting process, from beginning to end. His voracious appetite for listening to music had him influenced by some of music’s greatest writers and performers. An ability to write melody not easily forgotten was forged by growing up listening to mighty melody makers such as Neil Diamond, Gerry Rafferty, Benny Andersson [ABBA], Iva Davies [Icehouse],Sinead O'Connor, Sharleen Spiteri [Texas] and Grant McLennan [Go-Betweens]. More recently, the likes of Adam Grunduciel [War on Drugs] and Hamish Hawk have all fuelled a relentless striving for the perfect melody which in turn, has driven MatteoM to a solo project long in the making.
Of course, melodies need to be furnished with sound. Influences include the bombastic sounds of Pink Floyd and Marillion, the grittiness of Lou Reed, the majesty of Leonard Cohen, the anthemic glories of Springsteen, Gianna Nannini and Zucchero. MatteoM has long seen himself as a guitarist trapped in a keyboard player’s body hence why guitars are such a driving force throughout his songs. The influence of the soaring pop guitars of Noel Gallagher, Jesus & Mary Chain and Manic Street Preachers are a constant presence during the songwriting process. When you add into the mix the haunting ambience of Future Islands and Kurt Vile and the diversity and genius of Sparx, Arcade Fire and David Bowie, one can begin to see the imaginings that sit at the core of MatteoM’s musical soundscape.
The Singer
MatteoM has never truly seen himself as a singer truth be told. However, left to his own devices during a three year lockdown, MatteoM was forced to upgrade studio gear and start singing himself. It’s incredible what can happen when one starts singing into a Shure Beta58 studio microphone! Supported by producers who encouraged, pushed and demanded quality vocals, confidence grew and now.... somewhat tentatively, MatteoM calls himself a singer/songwriter.

Haunting and poignant. A song which lyrically encapsulates the album’s theme; the search for answers amidst the hurt and anguish of love.
